2020 ECMTB Annual Meeting

This year the annual meeting is a joint event organized by the European Society for Mathematical and Theoretical Biology (ESMTB) and the Society for Mathematical Biology (SMB).

This meeting will be hosted in the New University building (Neue Universität) located in the beautiful Heidelberg old town (Altstadt), Germany from August 31st to September 4th, 2020. Please see the conference website to learn more details about the meeting at ecmtb2020.org/.

Early conference registration is until May 31, 2020. You can register for the conference here.

The conference includes plenary talks on the field of Mathematical Biology, mini-symposia, contributed talks and posters.

News from the Bulletin of Mathematical Biology

SMB Subgroups Updates

The Mathematical Epidemiology Subgroup will hold a mini-symposium for ECMTB/SMB 2020. A subgroup meeting also will be held at the conference. Tune in for more details!

The Mathematical Neuroscience Subgroup has a new Chair, Dr. Cheng Ly, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Co-Chair, Dr. Wilten Nicola, University of Calgary. We welcome the new editors and thank Prof. Horacio Rotstein and Dr. Stephen Coombes for both the creation of this subgroup and previously leading this subgroup.

 

Funding Opportunities

  • British Society of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (BSAC) COVID-19 FUNDING CALL: In response to the current public health emergency, BSAC has decided – with immediate effect – to support more research into better understanding coronavirus (COVID-19). In order to address this, BSAC is giving researchers an opportunity to apply for research grants of up to £25,000 for COVID-19 research for research projects of up to 12 months.   • NSF is accepting proposals to conduct non-medical, non-clinical-care research that can be used immediately to explore how to model and understand the spread of COVID-19. Find detailed information about this opportunity here.

 

  • The Office of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure (OAC) within the Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering is inviting Rapid Response Research (RAPID) proposals and supplemental funding requests to existing awards that address COVID-19 challenges through data and/or software infrastructure development activities.   • National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) are issuing this Notice of Special Interest (NOSI) to highlight the urgent need for research on the 2019 novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV).
