and research at the frontiers of knowledge, held at international locations
III. New Concepts in International Graduate Experience – Large-scale
graduate student international research, training and professional
development

Subject: 2018 HIP IMO HighSchool Internship in Mathematical Oncology
HIP IMO accepting applications for Summer 2018
The Highschool Internship Program in Integrated Mathematical Oncology (HIP
IMO) at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL, is accepting application for the
8 weeks summer internship program, June 4 – July 27, 2018. HIP IMO is an
Integrated Mathematical Oncology centric internship program that delivers
interdisciplinary team science research experiences for high school students
aged 16 or older by the time of the internship. This mentored training
program is designed for motivated aspiring scientists to help prepare them
for interdisciplinary cancer research careers. Working under the direction
and guidance of IMO faculty/scientist mentors, interns are involved in
activities designed to foster the development of life-long research skills.
We are pleased to announce that all students will receive a Richard O.
Jacobson scholarship. Financial support is also available for out of town
participants. Detailed information and application details can be found
online at psoc.moffitt.org/education/internship-programs/hip-imo/

(Leicester, UK, April 9-13, 2018)
web.mat.bham.ac.uk/N.B.Petrovskaya/mpdee18.htm
The scope of the conference is outlined by (although not necessarily
restricted to) the following topics:
* population dynamics and ecological complexity
* animal movement and dispersal
* biological invasions and spread of epidemics
* collective dynamics and ecological pattern formation
* uncertainty and predictability in ecology
* ecological time series and regime shifts
* agroecology and food security
* models in behavioral ecology
* evolutionary population ecology
* population and quantitative genetics
* evolution of culture and human behavior
* evolutionary game theory
This conference appears as a result of merging of two conference series,
namely Models in Population Dynamics and Ecology (MPDE) and Modelling
Biological Evolution (MBE). For all further information such as the
honorary & keynote speakers, the advisory scientific committee, the
deadlines, the details of the registration procedure and much more, please

REU: Data and Models in the Biosciences
Program Background: Technological advances in the measurement of molecular
events in cells and tissues make it possible to obtain detailed information
about the wide variety of dynamic processes that control the development and
functioning of organisms. This has given rise to a systems approach in
biology and biomedicine, which captures these processes at the systems level
through the language of mathematical models. Accordingly, the scientific
focus of this program is on the development, implementation, and application
of mathematical algorithms to problems in biology and biomedicine.
UConn Health, Center for Quantitative Medicine is a research center that
brings together expertise ranging from computational biology and
bioinformatics to statistics and health informatics, with a heavy emphasis
on mathematical methods underpinning those fields. In 2018, the program will
focus on research projects in the Laubenbacher, Mendes and Vera-Licona
research groups at the Center for Quantitative Medicine, and the Slepchenko
group at the Center for Cell Analysis and Modeling. Students will work in
teams with UConn researchers, have opportunities to build their professional
network, and learn about a wide range of career opportunities.
Program Location: UConn Health, 263 Farmington Avenue, Farmington, CT 06032
Program Dates: May 30 – August 3, 2018
Award: Eligible participants will receive $5,000 stipend. Housing, meals and
travel allowance.
*Students from underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply*
Application Deadline: February 11, 2018
