The publications committee and editor of the Society for Mathematical Biology Newsletter try our best to get the newsletters out in a timely fashion. We would like to apologize to the members of the SMB for getting this issue out late, and offer an explanation.

The original dates for next year's SMB Annual meeting conflicted with the SIAM annual meeting. Because of this, the SMB decided to reschedule our annual meeting for next year.. We did not want to publish this issue of the newsletter without an announcement for next year's meeting, and so we had to wait for the dates to be rescheduled. We would also like to point out that the date, as it appears in the SMB Digest Volume 00 Issue 17 from September 26, 2000 reflects the old date. Please make note of the revised date, as announced in this issue.
