The Biomedical Engineering Laboratory
of the
Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne, Switzerland,
is seeking a

Postdoctoral Fellow in Cellular Biophysics

The candidates should hold a Ph.D. degree in Biophysics, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields. The research in our laboratory in the domain of cellular biophysics is concentrated on the studies of changes of cell morphology and cytoskeletal remodeling in response to applied stresses and mechanical properties of the cell. The new direction includes the analysis of the mechanism of directional cell motility using a simplified model of subcellular lamellar fragments (an approach developed by Dr. A. Verkhovsky). This system is ideally suited for quantitative analysis using digital fluorescence microscopy and for theoretical modeling. The laboratory is very well equipped in cell manipulation systems, optical microscopy and digital imaging.

The job involves development of original theoretical models in the area of subcellular mechanics. Knowledge of French is not necessary. The position is for one to two years, starting January or February 2000.
