The Popescu group at the Institute for Genomics, Biocomputing and
Biotechnology (IGBB) seeks applicants for PhD positions that offers
interdisciplinary training in systems biology and bioinformatics. The
PhD students will lead and participate in NSF-funded research exploring
the systems biology of peptidase activity, redox signaling and plant
stress responses, focusing on understanding the role of controlled
proteolysis in signaling circuits that enable plants to withstand
oxidative stress. The project employs a model to elucidate the
contributions of the proteolytic pathways mediated by TOP1 and TOP2
thimet oligopeptidases (doi: 10.1111/tpj.12320) through integrated
biochemical, proteomics, and systems biology approaches
(doi: 10.3389/fpls.2015.00327).
Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in bioinformatics,
computational sciences, systems biology or a related field.
Requirements: Experience in computational biology and bioinformatics;
good computer programming skills; a strong interest in developing
quantitative biology methods applied to cell signaling and molecular
plant biology; good communication skills and an ability to work as part
of a multi-disciplinary team.

is an EU-funded Innovative Training Network coordinated by Francesco
Battaglia and including groups at the Radboud (Nijmegen), UCLondon,
NTNU-Trondheim, INSERM & AMU (Marseille), Weizmann, Janssen Pharma and
SISSA, which will host 15 PhD students on projects taking different
approaches to hippocampal memory functions, starting in early 2018. The
two theorists to be hosted at SISSA, however, have to be admitted to its
Cognitive Neuroscience PhD, by attending the exam in Trieste on

The postdoctoral fellow hired for this position will provide research
support for mathematical and computer modeling projects in support of
public health decision making for healthcare epidemiology, within the
University of Utah Health Sciences Center. The postdoctoral fellow will
work on one or more funded projects aimed at improving our understanding
of healthcare transmission dynamics and modeling interventions to reduce
healthcare associated infections in hospitals and long-term care
facilities. Within this scope, the postdoctoral fellow will have the
opportunity to focus on theoretical and applied modeling topics of
interest, including network epidemiology, antibiotic resistance and
stewardship, strain competition, vaccine immunology, modes of
transmission, environmental contamination, and optimal intervention
strategies for individual facilities and regional healthcare networks.
Responsibilities:
1. Provides support for scientific literature search and synthesis of
reviewed literature
2. Assists in designing, analyzing, and interpreting mathematical models
and computer simulations according to project needs
3. Prepares and communicates research results in written and oral
summary
4. Works collaboratively with supervisor, other project team members,

The EMRLab seeks dynamic, highly motivated, goal oriented postdoctoral
scholars with an interest in mathematical modeling of physiological
processes. The ideal candidate will have a broad interest in the
challenge of translating biological mechanistic hypotheses into testable
mathematical formulations. Preference will be given to applicants with a
demonstrated facility with cross-disciplinary communication and
experience with computational modeling that includes working with varied
experimental datasets. Experience with any of the following is
particularly desirable: formulation of compartmental models, kinetic
modeling of metabolic pathways, stochastic modeling, parameter
estimation and uncertainty quantification, molecular simulation.
Appointment will be for 12 months, in the first instance, with potential
renewal for 2 further years. Applicants must have their PhD in Chemical

9-Month Postdoctoral Research Assistant Position in Computational
Modelling of Vascular Tumour Growth
We invite applications for a 9-month postdoctoral research position,
funded by Cancer Research UK and based at the Mathematical Institute,
University of Oxford. This work will be jointly supervised by Professor
Helen Byrne (Wolfs Centre for Mathematical Biology, Mathematical
Institute), Professor Philip Maini (Wolfson Centre for Mathematical
Biology, Mathematical Institute) and Dr Joe Pitt-Francis (Department of
Computer Science), and involves collaboration with Professor Ruth
Muschel (Department of Oncology). This is a fixed term position for up
to 9 months and is available for an immediate start.
This project will focus on the investigation of existing multiscale
models of vascular tumour growth. Model simulations and analysis of
their outputs will provide insights into the mechanisms that regulate
the growth of vascular tumours and assist with the identification of
improved strategies for their treatment.
With a PhD awarded, or a Masters degree and PhD submitted (at the time
of taking up the position), the successful candidate will possess
expertise in at least one of the following areas: multiscale modelling,
applying numerical methods to solve multiscale models of vascular tumour
growth, techniques for characterising the morphology of vascular
networks, and programming in C++ or a similar language. Applicants
should also have a good publication record, judged by their career
stage.
