Subject: Tutorial: RevBayes, Bayesian Inference of Phylogeny, NIMBioS

There's still time to apply for the RevBayes: Bayesian Inference of
Phylogeny Tutorial to be held at the National Institute for Mathematical
and Biological Synthesis (NIMBioS) at the University of Tennessee,
Knoxville from August 7-11.

This course features RevBayes, an exciting new program for Bayesian
inference of phylogeny.

This course is focused on phylogenetic trees and
comparative-phylogenetic methods. Instruction is based on a combination
of carefully tailored lectures introducing the theoretical and
conceptual basis of each inference problem and hands-on computer
tutorials demonstrating how to explore these questions using RevBayes
(see http://revbayes.github.io/tutorials.html).

Participants are not assumed to have expertise in phylogenetic theory;
rather, we provide an accessible introduction to Bayesian statistical
inference and stochastic models.

Registration Fee: $500 for faculty and postdocs and $350 for students,
payable upon acceptance of application.

Participation in NIMBioS tutorials is by application only. Individuals

UK Conference on Multiscale Biology, Nottingham, 16th-18th April 2018,
hosted by the Centre for Mathematical Medicine and Biology (CMMB) at the
University of Nottingham

This international meeting is part of, and supported by, the
BBSRC-funded UK Multi-Scale Biology Network
(http://www.multiscalebiology.org.uk/) and aims to bring together
scientists addressing multiscale phenomena across a range of biological
systems, and crossing spatial scales from molecules to populations of
organisms. Confirmed plenary speakers include:

Subject: Nominations: Canada 150 Chairs, UBC Okanagan

Canada has recently announced the Canada 150 Chairs program, which aims
to bring top notch international researchers (that is, researchers
working abroad - any nationality (including Canadian) is eligible) at
all levels (junior to senior) to Canada. The annual funding for each of

established computational biology and bioinformatics activities at the
High Performance Computing and Networking Institute. The appointed

is on statistical machine learning and data mining techniques for the

Subject: PhD Positions/Post-doc: Memory & Brain Investigation, Italy

A postdoc is sought to join a HFSP-funded project to study analog
cortical computations in linguistic processes. A collaboration with
Naama Friedmann (TAU) and Remi Monasson (ENS). Ideal candidates have a
flair for (some) language, come from a background we have not thought of
and seek to get to places where they have not been, at the crossroads
between neuroscience, complex systems, and poetry.

Two PhD students from outside Italy are sought to later join as ESRs the
EU Training Network M-GATE, on hippocampal memory functions. A network
of 7 institutes + 4 companies, coordinated by Francesco Battaglia
(Nijmegen). Ideal candidates, who can be of any nationality but must not
have spent much time in Italy in the last 3 years, enjoy analytical,
mathematical and computational excursions when in search of fundamental
network understanding. Deadline August 31st, 2017.

I am looking for a postdoc to join my group at Michigan State
University. The research project may be anything involving variational
multiscale modeling of biomolecular systems, machine learning and deep
learning prediction of biomolecular structures, function, dynamics and
transport, and algebraic topology, differential geometry and graph
theory based analysis and characterization of biomolecules.

The ideal candidate should have experience with code development, and
biophysical/biochemical modeling and computation. Requirements include a
Ph.D. in Mathematics, Physics, Computational Chemistry, Computer Science
or other quantitative science and experience with biological science.
