Title of the event:
Modelling Week on Computational Physiology: Risk Stratification Models and Tools (ComPh), March 20-24, Oslo, Norway
Description:
The 5-day event will provide the unique training opportunities for students in natural sciences to explore and design computational tools for modelling and data analysis from existing and developing experimental modalities in various biomedical fields (cardiology, cancer, etc.). Starting with a gentle introduction to biostatistics, system biology, computational physiology, and big data analysis, the course will discuss state-of- the-art techniques in the corresponding fields as well as their translatability to scientific and industrial applications as well as routine clinical use. Practical projects outlining industrial and societal challenges will give the opportunity to have hands on experience and apply the techniques to real-life problems.
This event, co-funded by the MI-NET COST Action, aims at contributing to promote the industrial-driven research and innovation at universities as well as to encourage female involvement in natural sciences. The event is open to everyone with an interest in the topics and techniques of the school but registration is required. There are five stipends available to fully cover costs associated with travel and accommodation.
The event is jointly organised by Simula Research Laboratory and Helmholtz Zentrum Munich. For further information, please visit the event's website: https://www.simula.no/education/courses/comph-modelling-week

Some techniques to be covered include maximum likelihood and Bayesian approaches to inference, parameter estimation, model identifiability, uncertainty and sensitivity analysis
Researchers from the mathematical and biological sciences will be featured speakers, including Ben Bolker (McMaster University); Ariel Cintron-Arias (East Tennessee State University); Marisa Eisenberg (School of Public Health, University of Michigan); Nina Fefferman (University of Tennessee, Knoxville); Simeone Marino (University of Michigan Medical School); and Joseph Tien (The Ohio State University).
Co-sponsors: NIMBioS, the Mathematical Biosciences Institute (MBI, Ohio State), and the Centre for Applied Mathematics in Bioscience and Medicine (CAMBAM)
Application Deadline: Applications for acceptance to the school received before February 3, 2017 will receive full consideration.
The registration fee of $300, which includes on-campus housing and meals, is due upon acceptance. Participants are responsible for their own travel to Knoxville. A very limited amount of travel support is available for those demonstrating need.

From: German Enciso <enciso@uci.edu> Date: Mon, Dec 26, 2016 at 5:10 PM Subject: Postdoctoral Position, Stochastic Reaction Networks, UC Irvine
The Enciso lab at the University of California, Irvine, has an open position for a postdoctoral researcher in the area of mathematical and computational biology. We will develop new theoretical methods to approximate noise in stochastic chemical reaction networks. These methods will be used in the context of experimental models in molecular and cell biology. This work is part of a new interdisciplinary collaboration together with systems biology researchers at Harvard Medical School and Caltech, funded by DARPA. Experience with numerical simulations, preferably using Matlab, is strongly desired, as is also a familiarity with stochastic methods (chemical master equation, moment closure, SSA algorithm etc). Candidates whose research directly relates to that of one or more professors in the department will be given hiring preference.
The position offers a stimulating research and teaching environment with a reduced teaching load (averaging two one-semester courses per year). A start-up research grant is included with the position. Salary is commensurate with that of an Assistant Professor. Review of applications will begin December 30, 2016, however the competition will remain open until filled. Full details can be found at https://www.ualberta.ca/mathematical-and-statistical-sciences/career-opportunities.
