Infectious Disease Dynamics in the Context of Global Change
As part of a new university-wide emphasis on Global Systems Science,
Virginia Tech is hiring five faculty members in the area of infectious
disease across four colleges. The Department of Biological Sciences
a tenure-track faculty position in the area of infectious disease dynamics
and global change. The appointment is expected to be at the rank of
assistant professor, but senior applicants will be considered. We seek a
scientist who uses predominantly computational approaches to address how
global change from environmental or anthropogenic sources influence
infectious disease dynamics. Potential research questions may include, but
are not limited to, the effects of global change on population and
community dynamics of pathogens, vectors, and hosts; within-host dynamics
between microbes and the immune system as a result of anthropogenic

Cancer Data Science Laboratory, NCI-CCR

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) is seeking a visionary scientist in
cancer computational biology and data science to establish and lead the new
Cancer Data Science Laboratory (CDSL) in the Center for Cancer Research
(CCR), National Cancer Institute. The position of Chief is equivalent to
that of an academic department chair.
The CDSL will be the hub for computational and bioinformatics activities
across the CCR which is the largest component of the NIH Intramural Research
Program with more than 230 investigators performing basic, translational
and clinical research on cancer. The CDSL will house a group of principal
investigators, led by the Chief, working at the forefront of data science in
fields such as, but not limited to, integrative genomics, network approaches
to biology, computational modeling, and mathematical oncology. In addition
to conducting original research, the incumbent will have the opportunity
to build a new multi-PI research program, define the scope and direction of
the CDSL, and oversee all aspects of its development, including recruitment
of faculty. The Chief will also administratively oversee a computational
Collaboratory consisting of multiple computational scientists with the
goal of enabling high-end computational analysis projects for the entire
CCR community. In addition, the Chief will also provide leadership in team
science and will integrate CCR computational activities with ongoing trans-
NIH computational and data science efforts across the research spectrum
present in the CCR.

more than 2000 scientific staff and provides a protected environment to

Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Branch, NICHD

The Division of Intramural Population Health Research is located within
the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human
Development and invites qualified candidates to apply for the position
of Chief and Senior Investigator of the Biostatistics and Bioinformatics
Branch. As one of three intramural branches in the Division, the Biostatistics
and Bioinformatics Branch mission is to develop novel statistical methods
motivated by the Division's population health research that includes
human fecundity and fertility, pregnancy, and child and adolescent
health and behavior. In addition, Branch scientists serve as statistical
co-investigators on all etiologic and interventional research in keeping
with the team science research paradigm practiced by the Division. The
Branch's mission also includes a strong commitment to mentoring trainees
at varying career stages and professional service.
As an intramural entity, the Branch is expected to develop innovative
methodologic and collaborative research that uses the rich trans-disciplinary
environment of the Division and the NIH Intramural Research Program. This

doctoral degree in biostatistics, statistics or a closely related quantitative

methodologist whose accomplishments are commensurate with the academic rank
of a tenured full professor, as demonstrated by a strong upward trajectory
of high quality statistical publications, a trajectory of high quality and
impact collaborative publications, an international reputation, extramural
funding (for academic candidates), and a clear vision of biostatistics' and
bioinformatics' essential role in population health research. The Chief is
expected to lead in strengthening current research areas and in developing new
areas of expertise to address increasingly challenging designs and analyses,
including priorities such as bioinformatics and causal inference. The Chief is
expected to lead in developing and implementing the infrastructure and culture
of reproducible research. The position requires excellent inter-personnel and
