The joint meeting of the European Society for Mathematical and
Theoretical Biology (ESMTB) and the annual meeting of the Society for
Mathematical Biology (SMB) will be held in Nottingham, 11-15 July
2016.

Postdoctoral/Junior Faculty member
Announcing the Mathematical Bioscience Award for a Postdoctoral/Junior
Faculty member to support travel to the SMB 2016 Annual Meeting:
This $1000 award, sponsored by Elsevier, will provide travel support
to a postdoctoral fellow or junior faculty member selected by the
education committee to attend the SMB 2016 Annual Meeting in
Nottingham, UK. The award will be given to an SMB member who is
presenting an education-focused talk at the annual meeting.
Applications should include:
1. An explanation of the importance of SMB meeting attendance to the
applicant?s professional development and to undergraduate education at
the home institution.
2. A statement confirming society membership.
3. A description of the annual travel funds available from the
applicant?s home institution, and a statement justifying the need for
additional support.

Subject: CFP: Modeling and Computations on Lipid Bilayer Membranes
The journal Molecular Based Mathematical Biology (MBMB) is a
peer-reviewed, open-access journal, aiming to promote the mathematical
study of biological processes at the molecular scale. The purpose of
the current special issue is to create a platform for researchers from
mathematical, biological, computer sciences and other related
disciplines to report recent novel developments on computational
approaches for modeling various critical biological processes
occurring on dynamical lipid bilayer membranes, on either molecular
or cellular level.
The solicited topics of this special issue include, but are not limited to:
Deformation or morphology change of lipid bilayer membranes
Lipid transportation or localization on bilayer membranes
Transportation of particles (molecules , ions, protons) on or
across bilayer membranes
Modeling and simulation of membrane proteins
Protein-membrane interactions

Senior Lecturer in Mathematical Biology at The University of Chicago,
Biological Sciences Collegiate Division
The Biological Sciences Collegiate Division at the University of
Chicago invites applications for a position at the rank of Senior
Lecturer in mathematical biology beginning in the Autumn of 2016.
The Senior Lecturer will be responsible for working with the faculty to
develop and deploy a mathematical and computational curriculum
directly within existing course sequences for undergraduate biology
majors. The goal of this embedded curriculum is to enable deeper
exploration of dynamic and stochastic biological processes at all
stages of students? education in biology. Opportunities for teaching
separate courses in the applicant?s area of specialty are available.
The Senior Lecturer will be expected to assist faculty in applying for
extramural support for program development, as needed, and to pursue
academic activities publishable in the appropriate scientific and
education literature.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in mathematics or a related field and
preferably postdoctoral experience studying biological phenomena.
Strong interest and demonstrated proficiency in undergraduate teaching
and curriculum development is required. A record of collaborative
work with biologists is important. The appointment will be for three
years and is renewable.

NIH Director's Early Independence Award Funding Opportunity Announcement
for FY 2017 - Receipt date September 12, 2016
The National Institutes of Health Common Fund announces the FY 2017
funding opportunity for the NIH Director's Early Independence Awards (EIA)
allows exceptional junior scientists to accelerate their transition to an
independent research career by "skipping" the traditional postdoctoral
training. To be eligible, candidates at time of application must be
within one year (before or after) of completion of their terminal degree
or clinical residency. In addition, at time of application, candidates must
not be in an independent position (as defined in the FOA). Each institution
(designated by a unique DUNS identifier) may submit up to two applications in
response to this FOA. Letters of intent are due Aug. 12, 2016. Applications
are due Sept. 12, 2016. See the instructions in the Funding Opportunity

To facilitate the "matching" of prospective candidates with potential
host institutions, the NIH Common Fund has created a matching portal
