scientists, if the project proposal is successful. To find out more about
the project description, the programme and whether you are able to apply
for an AgreenSkills fellowship, please visit
www.agreenskills.eu.
Project description
Genotype-phenotype models have been considered as the tools of the future
to design new varieties, since they can help to test the performance of
new genotypes under different climate conditions. A kinetic model of sugar
metabolism has been recently developed to simulate the concentrations
of different sugars during fruit development in peach (publication in
preparation). The objective of this project is to integrate the genetic
control of sugar metabolism in the kinetic model.First a global sensitivity
analysis will be performed to identify major parameters. Then, an estimation
of the parameter values for a whole peach progeny (106 genotypes) will be
conducted and genotype-dependent parameters identified. To achieve this
step model simplification may be necessary. Next, the architecture of the
genetic control of the genotype-dependent parameters will be studied and
this information back included in the kinetic model. The integrated model
will be further used to develop an approach of ideotype design and progress
towards virtual breeding.
