Subject: Workshop: Dynamical Systems Applied to Biology and Natural Sciences
Dear Colleagues,
the purpose of this email is to invite you, on behalf of the Organizers,
to participate at the upcoming 2015 Workshop "Dynamical Systems Applied to
Biology and Natural Sciences".
The Sixth Workshop "Dynamical Systems applied to Biology and Natural Sciences"
will be held at the Centro de Matemática e Aplicações Fundamentais (CMAF),
Lisbon University, in Portugal, from February 4 to 6, 2015. The workshop
has both theoretical methods and practical applications and the abstracts
included in the program will cover research topics in in population dynamics,
eco-epidemiology, epidemiology of infectious diseases, molecular and antigenic
evolution and methodical topics in the natural sciences and mathematics.
The program includes lectures by the invited speakers, contributed talks
and poster session by the participants. The workshop does not charge a
registration fee.
Participants are kindly requested to register at

Subject: The 2015 Summer School in Computational Physiology
Call for participation:
The University of California San Diego, the University of Oslo, and
Simula Research Laboratory welcome you to the joint 2015 Summer School
in Computational Physiology: Models, Tools, and Techniques for Cardiac
Applications
Oslo, Norway, 15-26 June 2015
La Jolla, CA, USA 10-14 August 2015
http://www.simula.no/education/educational-collaboration/simula-summer-school/2015-summer-school
Motivation and description:
The University of California San Diego (UC San Diego) has promoted
long-standing research collaborations with the University of Oslo (UiO)
and Simula Research Laboratory (Simula, Oslo, Norway) focused around
multiple aspects of computational physiology. This joint summer school,
now in its 2nd year, has emerged based on the complementary expertise
and shared educational goals of the two institutions. The core goal of
the summer school is to further promote successful research collaboration
between the host institutions, with particular emphasis on the training of
excellent PhD candidates with.
This summer school includes targeted research lectures and a practical
project portion. This course teaches the fundamental principles of
mathematical modeling used in cardiac electrophysiology and biomechanics
simulation. The course focuses on modeling the cellular-scale biophysical
processes responsible for electrical activation and contraction of cardiac
muscle cells, modeling frameworks for tissue scale electrical signal
propagation, as well as cellular- and tissue-level mechanics. Although the
main focus is on heart physiology, many of the derived models have a general
applicability in biomedical modeling. Since the final part of the course
will be a small research project, the students will also be introduced to
required and useful numerical methods and software tools for computational
modeling based on differential equations.
The applicant pool is open to interested graduate (Master's and early
PhD-level) students; students from third-party institutions as well as both
host Universities are encouraged to apply.
Course enrollment will be limited to 10 participants in 2015. Simula will
offer stipends designed to fully cover costs associated with travel to/from
Oslo and/or San Diego to all accepted applicants. Accommodation and meals
will also be provided free of charge.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: March 31st, 2015
