postdoctoral fellows to the field of mathematical biology and nonlinear
dynamics. For two weeks the participants will have the opportunity to benefit
from the instruction of international experts in the field of mathematical
modeling and nonlinear dynamics. Participants will apply their knowledge and
skills through the various lab activities, and also through the presentation
of their research projects.

The summer school will prepare participants to the increasing demand in
academia, government, and industry for people with cross-disciplinary
training who, with various degrees of competence, can speak the languages
of the mathematical, physical and biological sciences.

Registration will open on February 2, 2015. Financial support is available for
applicants. The deadline for financial aid and registration is March 1, 2015.

Subject: PhD Position: Math Modeling & Simulation of Crowded Transport .., RICAM

PhD position (f/m) in the New Frontiers Group on 'Mathematical modeling
and simulation of crowded transport in the life and social sciences'

A new PhD position is available at the Johann Radon Institute for
Computational and Applied Mathematics (RICAM  http://www.ricam.oeaw.ac.at/)
within the New Frontiers Group on "Multi-scale modeling and simulation
of crowded transport in the life and social sciences". The applicant will
work with Dr. Marie-Therese Wolfram in the newly founded research group,
which started in the beginning of 2014.

The PhD project focuses on the development of mathematical models for ion
transport in biological and synthetic pores and their efficient numerical
simulation. The developed models and methods will serve as a basis to study
parameter identification problems in ion channels and nanopores. We are a
young research team, which focuses on various aspects of crowded transport
such as mathematical modeling, analysis of partial differential equations
and scientific computing. The PhD position offers excellent opportunities
to work in a lively research environment and collaborate with international
experts in the field of applied mathematics as well as bio-physics.

We are looking for a talented and self-motivated individual with a solid
background in mathematical modeling and partial differential equations.
Knowledge in numerical analysis and scientific computing is desirable. An
MSc degree in mathematics is mandatory.

The position is available from February 1, 2015 or as soon as possible
thereafter. It will be offered up to 3 years with a monthly gross salary
of EUR 1996,9 (14 times per year). The weekly working time is 30 hours and
includes five weeks of vacation.

Applicants should provide the following information: letter of motivation,
curriculum vitae, record of their university course work and a PDF file
of their master thesis. Interested candidates are invited to send their

Subject: Postdoc Positions: Infectious Disease Modeling, NCSU

I am moving my lab from University of Tennessee to North Carolina State
University in January 2015. I am looking for two postdoctoral associates
on infectious disease modeling.

Two postdoctoral associate positions on infectious disease modeling are
available in Cristina Lanzas' group (Department of Population Health
and Pathobiology, College of Veterinary Medicine, North Carolina State
University). Applicants with a background in mathematical modeling of
infectious diseases and/or population biology are highly encouraged to
apply. Our research combines data, epidemiological analysis and mathematical
models to study transmission and disease control and it is currently
supported by NIH and USDA.

The research focus will be the transmission and control of infectious
diseases caused by enteric pathogens (specifically Clostridium difficile,
Enterohaemorrhagic E. coli, and Salmonella), the use of mathematical modeling
to study the antimicrobial resistance dissemination at multiple scales,
and the effect of intestinal microbial disruption by treatments such as
antibiotics on host susceptibility and pathogen transmission. A number of
potential research projects are available and so the research focus may be
tailored to the interests and skills of the individual.

Necessary Education, Experience Skills, Training and Education:
The postdoctoral associates shall have a Ph.D. degree in a relevant
quantitative discipline (ecology, epidemiology, engineering, applied
mathematics, statistics and related fields) and have a deep interest in
interdisciplinary collaboration, strong quantitative skills and good oral
and writing skills are expected. The applicants must have experience in R
and/or MATLAB. Experience developing and implementing agent-based models
and/or multi-scale models is desirable.

The initial appointment will be for one year, with renewal for two or
more years subject to satisfactory progress and mutual agreement. The
salary will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the
individuals. Review of applications will begin December 1st 2014 and will
continue until suitable candidates are identified. Starting date can be as
early as January 2015.
