Subject: IMO Workshop 3 on Personalized Medicine, Nov 18th-22nd, Moffitt

Dear Colleague,

We are currently organizing the 3rd IMO workshop that will run from
November 18-22nd at Moffitt (see link for flyer below). This workshop is
designed to motivate and facilitate hands-on modeling experience focused
on Personalized Medicine. The workshop is comprised of both an educational
event and competition. The workshop will divide into four teams (or maybe 5)
integrating clinical, experimental and theoretical members that will focus
their energies on developing and implementing a mathematical model focused
on facilitating personalized approach to diagnosis or treatment of a given
cancer. The teams are expected to come up with a model, solve it and give a
presentation all within 4.5 intense days. The opening presentation is set
for the morning of the 18th and the morning of the final day, the 22nd,
is dedicated to presentations and judging. All workshop activities will be
held at the Moffitt Cancer Centre and Research Institute in Tampa, Florida.

A critical piece of this workshop will be the use of patient specific data,
the idea being that the mathematical model will utilize patient data in
some way that will enhance personalized medicine. To facilitate integration
and motivate participation we are offering an Amazon gift voucher to active
participants of the winning team and to the runner up team. I am also pleased
to say that the leaders of the winning team will be awarded a $50K pilot
grant, that will be administered primarily by the IMO but most likely will
facilitate experimental and clinical validation.

For the first time we are offering travel awards (thanks to the support of
SMB and Moffitt PSOC), these are extremely limited and competitive - not a
first come first served basis. If you are a Postdoc or PhD student interested
in participating in the workshop as a team player, please register asap
at http://imo3.eventbrite.com and follow instructions. Time is very tight,
so please don't wait to register for this exciting opportunity.

University, Hsinchu, Taiwan

Conference URL: http://math.cts.nthu.edu.tw/Mathematics/2013MP.htm

Conference Scope:
The celebrated work of Hodgkin and Huxley in the last century provides
an excellent example that physiologists can use mathematical models and
methods to help them in extracting the mechanisms of physiological phenomena.

On the other hand, due to the nature of different disciplines, there are
barriers for the communication between physiologists and mathematicians.

This three-day conference is a multidisciplinary meeting forum for
researchers from experimental and theoretical fields, modeling, and applied
mathematics, and is devoted to facilitating scientific exchange of ideas
between physiologists and applied mathematicians, and initiating new
collaborative partnerships.

Invited Speakers:
Baltazar Aguda (National Cancer Institute, USA)
Carson Chow (National Institutes of Health, USA)
Daniel Forger (University of Michigan, USA)
Pranay Goel (IISER Pune, India)
James Keener (University of Utah, USA)
Tai-Chia Lin (National Taiwan University)
Chu-Pin Lo (Providence University)
Chih-Wen Shih (National Chiao Tung University)
James Sneyd (University of Auckland, New Zealand)
