Howard (Howie) Weiss’ newly established Biomathematics group in the Departments of Biology and Mathematics at The Pennsylvania State University, State College, PA seeks two quantitatively trained Postdoctoral researchers who are highly curious about how microbes grow, evolve and cause disease.

A major project focus will involve developing new PDE and machine learning (ML) based tools and models to improve the performance of spatial microbial population and evolutionary dynamics models and infectious disease transmission models. Applicants will also be encouraged to pursue their own research passions and collaborations.

The position requires a PhD in a STEM field and is a fixed-term appointment funded for one-year from the date of hire, with a possibility of re-funding for up to three years.  Demonstrated computational modeling experience with PDEs or ML is highly desired.  Applicants should be willing to closely collaborate with life scientists.   Strong communication and writing skills are highly valued. Travel funds will be available for conference travel and visits with collaborators.
