The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (http://www.usciences.edu ) invites applications for a full-time 10-month non-tenure-track faculty position in Data Science at the Assistant Professor level beginning August 15, 2020. This appointment has the potential of being converted to a tenure-track position. Applicants are sought with specialties in all areas but especially in modern methods of data science and computational science. This search is part of a college-wide recruitment effort to expand research in data science and support a newly created Bachelor of Science program in Data Science. To foster collaborations across academic units, we are open to making interdepartmental joint appointments, or more traditional departmental appointments in the most appropriate academic Department within the Misher College of Arts and Sciences.
Successful candidates will become part of a fast-paced educational environment and an outstanding collaborative environment with access to a variety of inter-disciplinary opportunities, such as the West Center for Computational Research and the Bio-imaging Research Core.
Responsibilities of faculty in this position include teaching, mentoring/advising, scholarship, and service. The candidate will contribute to the implementation and shaping of the Bachelor of Science degree in Data Science and help foster practical, hands-on experiences for students.
Qualifications
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Computational Science, Statistics, Bio-statistics, Applied Mathematics or closely related fields from a regionally accredited institution.
Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, preferably in one of these fields: Data Science, Computer Science, Computational Science, or Informatics.
Candidates must also demonstrate proficiency in computer programming (e.g. R, Python, or SQL), data management, analysis, and visualization.
